Some information about Niaouli

Organic Niaouli essential oil

Niaouli is an abundant tree from New Caledonia. It is now widely found in the Indonesian archipelago, in Madagascar and in Australia. Niaouli likes warm and humid areas. The genus Melaleuca includes several species, the best known of which are the tea tree (melaleuca alternifolia) and the cajeput (melaleuca cajeputi), all of which have marked antiseptic properties. Niaouli essential oil has a distinctive scent that combines the strength of eucalyptol with sweet notes reminiscent of bitter almond. Niaouli is also known as Gomenol, also called "the skin tree" because of the successive layers of bark on its wood (10 to 20 thick layers superimposed).

It is found in many commercial preparations (gargles, toothpastes, breath fresheners). Its fragrance is strong, camphorated and frank with a note of sulphur. You can combine it with lavender, lemon, lemongrass, orange, pine, peppermint and rosemary. It is very similar to cajeput oil and eucalyptus, but more delicate and less irritating.

Antiseptic and healing, it is interesting for skin care, abrasions, insect bites, pimples.

It is a powerful expectorant and therefore indicated during a cold. 1 to 2 drops on a handkerchief help to unblock the nose in case of cold. In bath or in massage, it will relieve the pains in general.

Chemotype*

1,8-cineole, viridiflorol
*The chemotype is the identity card of the essential oil, its chemical composition defined by chromatographic analysis. The same plant can have several compositions depending on the place and the variety. A chemotype depends on a property, an odour and a taste.

Chemical formula

The essential oil of Niaouli consists mainly of terpene oxides (1.8-cineole: 38% to 48%), monoterpenols, sesquiterpenols including viridiflorol (6% to 15%) and monoterpenes (alpha and beta pinene, limonene) that are eliminated to obtain the "purified" oil. This composition corresponds to the essential oil from Madagascar, the one from New Caledonia being made up mainly of sesquiterpenols (65% to 70%) and monoterpenols (about 20%).

Allergens naturally contained in this essential oil : Geraniol, limonene, linalool

Advice for use

Essential oils are powerful natural substances and should therefore be used with care. Even though essential oils have been used since ancient times, there is often a lack of knowledge about how to use them and the precautions to take. Many books deal with essential oils. It is therefore advisable to refer to them to find out the traditional methods of use.

As an indication, here are some examples of use

Application by massage or compressApplication by massage or compress It is advisable to mix a few drops of essential oil with a vegetable oil (sweet almond, jojoba, macadamia, rose hip, argan, olive, etc.) to use it as a massage oil.

In case of congestion, to breathe more freely, you can dilute 5 to 10 drops in a vegetable oil, then massage the back, and from the chest to the throat.

To promote beautiful legs, especially in case of varicose veins: 4 to 5 drops in a neutral vegetable oil (massage the legs).

In case of burns, mix 50% Niaouli essential oil with rose hip vegetable oil, then massage the area to be treated 3 to 4 times a day until it heals.

For aches and pains, mix 8 to 10 drops of Niaouli essential oil in 1 tablespoon of neutral vegetable oil and, after sport, massage the painful areas.

Use in inhalation

To help the respiratory tract function properly and breathe more freely, simply put 2 drops of niaouli + 2 drops of lavender + 2 drops of thyme + 2 drops of pine on a paper handkerchief and inhale regularly throughout the day.

Use as a compress

It is advisable to mix a few drops of essential oil with a vegetable oil (sweet almond, jojoba, macadamia, rose hip, argan, olive, etc.) to use as a massage oil.

To help protect and purify the skin (especially in case of infections) or to promote healthy urinary tract, 5 drops in a bowl of warm water in compresses or washes. Repeat 3 times a day.

Use by diffusionDisinfecting and purifying, this oil helps to stimulate the body's natural defences. Diffuse for 15 to 30 minutes in living areas.

Oral use

To help the respiratory tract function properly, you can dilute 1 to 2 drops of niaouli essential oil in a teaspoon of honey or vegetable oil, twice a day (maximum daily dose: 2 drops, i.e. 0.08 ml).

Use in the bath As essential oils are not soluble in water, they must be mixed with an emulsifier before being poured into the bath. For example, they can be mixed with a liquid soap, a neutral shampoo (1 tablespoon) or our Solubol® dispersant. As a general rule, it is recommended not to exceed 10 drops per bath and not to stay in the bath for more than 20 minutes. Dispersing 5 to 10 drops of niaouli essential oil in a bath will help stimulate the body's natural defences.

An essential oil is made up of chemically defined molecules (about 10,000 listed) that have been secreted by special plant cells. It can consist of from one to several hundred molecules, which helps explain why some essential oils have many properties but different therapeutic effectiveness. To guarantee the properties necessary for effective aromatherapy, it is important that an essential oil is 100% pure and natural (not cut, not deterpenated, not mixed with alcohol or vegetable oils) and preferably organic. This is the case for the essential oils we sell. They are sold in tinted bottles with a dropper cap.
