Some information about the geranium
Originating in South Africa, there are currently more than 700 species of geranium, both native and hybrid, the majority of which are ornamental. They are cultivated all over the world, particularly in China, in the Maghreb countries, including Egypt. The Egyptian Geranium is a Rose Geranium and has the same properties as its Bourbon counterpart, however the "Bourbon" Geranium is renowned for its finer, flowery and sweeter olfactory quality (and also more expensive).
The commercial qualities of geraniums are very different. The magnificent geraniums that embellish small Alsatian villages every year are not the same species as the rose geranium that is used in aromatherapy or perfumery. Their composition and properties are also different. Be particularly careful about the origin of the oil! Along with lemon, it is one of the most widely used essential oils in aromatherapy. Its smell is very pleasant, sweet, flowery, with notes of Rose, slightly pungent and its amber colour make it a leading oil in cosmetics.
Thanks to these compounds, Geranium essential oil has a broad anti-infectious spectrum against bacteria, fungi and dust mites. It is therefore ideal for purifying the air, especially as it gives off a very pleasant round, flowery fragrance.
As a reminder, geraniol is one of the most effective antimicrobial monoterpenols in aromatherapy. Citronellol, although less consistent in its effectiveness, also has a really interesting anti-infectious activity.
Finally, studies show that these compounds are capable of repelling insects and mosquitoes, which is why it is commonly used in air diffusion.
Chemotype*
Citronellol, geraniol
*The chemotype is the identity card of the essential oil, its chemical composition defined by chromatographic analysis. The same plant can have several compositions depending on the place and the variety. A chemotype depends on a property, an odour, a taste.

100% pure and natural oil
An essential oil is made up of chemically defined molecules (about 10,000 listed) that have been secreted by special plant cells. It can consist of from one to several hundred molecules, which helps explain why some essential oils have many properties but different therapeutic effectiveness. To guarantee the properties necessary for effective aromatherapy, it is important that an essential oil is 100% pure and natural (not cut, not deterpenated, not mixed with alcohol or vegetable oils) and preferably organic. This is the case for the essential oils we sell. They are sold in tinted bottles with a dropper cap.
Go to the "Properties and characteristics of essential oils" file. Whether pure or mixed, you can use them in our different diffuser models. The information given on each essential oil is for guidance only. Beware of self-diagnosis, do not hesitate to consult an aromatherapist or any other recognised professional and read our special file "properties of essential oils"in our thematic files.
