In his book "Aromatherapy", Doctor J.VALNET reveals the results of numerous experiments carried out for more than 100 years. (The first research on the antiseptic power of essential oils dates from Chamberland in 1887). 

Antiseptic and bactericidal essential oils

Lemon

The work of Morel and Rochaix has shown that lemon essential oil vapors have incomparable antiseptic and bactericidal properties. They neutralize meningococcus in 15 minutes and pneumococcus in less than 3 hours.

But lemon is not the only essential oil to oppose the development of microbial germs, you also have in descending order thyme, orange, bergamot, juniper, clove, etc.

Lightia diffuser An also very interesting experiment is that carried out by Professor Griffon who studied the antiseptic activity of a mixture of essential oils for the bacteriological purification of the air. This mixture includes the essential oils of Pine, Thyme, Mint, Lavender, Rosemary, Clove and Cinnamon.

He noted that the diffusion of this mixture in the atmosphere had destroyed in 30 minutes, 100% of the molds and staphylococci and 98% of the microbial colonies.

Doctor Bildault, for his part, in his clinical observations, confirmed that air disinfection by diffusion of essential oils had a preventive therapeutic action on patients and a germicidal action on certain bacilli.

Natural diffusion is also a solution. You will not have the same results of course, but it can be an effective solution, especially for small parts.

In the most effective, you will find Thyme, which has an antiseptic and antiparasitic power significantly greater than hydrogen peroxide.

Mr. Cavel's research revealed that Thyme essence infertilizes sewage at a dose of 7/10,000, whereas it is necessary to use 5 times more Lavender aspic and 10 times more Cajeput to obtain the same result.

All these professors, doctors or researchers have therefore highlighted, in a scientific manner, an observation established for millennia !

Streaming Tips :

  •  It is important to only diffuse pure essential oils and preferably organically grown.
  •  Never diffuse essential oils continuously as this would lead to saturating the air with aromatic molecules.
  •  Avoid leaving essential oils in a diffuser for too long as they can oxidize and thicken.
  •  Never diffuse for more than 5 minutes in a child's bedroom.
