Originally from South Africa, there are currently more than 700 species of native or hybrid geraniums, the majority of which are ornamental. They are cultivated all over the world, particularly in China, in the Maghreb countries, including Egypt. The Egyptian Geranium is a Rose Geranium and has the same properties as its Bourbon counterpart, however the "Bourbon" Geranium is renowned for its finer, flowery and sweet (and also more expensive) olfactory quality.
The commercial qualities of geraniums are very different. The magnificent geraniums which adorn the small Alsatian villages every year are not of the same species as the rose geranium which is used in aromatherapy or perfumery. Their composition and properties also. Pay particular attention to the origin of the oil! It is, with lemon, one of the most used essential oils in aromatherapy. It harmonizes well with most essential oils by balancing the scents, it is also widely used in the manufacture of perfumes. It is suitable for all kinds of skins. By balancing the secretion of sebum, it will preserve the elasticity of the skin. Finally, studies show that it contains compounds capable of repelling insects and mosquitoes, which has earned it common use in atmospheric diffusion.

Rose Geranium essential oil has citronellol, geraniol and linalool as its main constituents.
Allergens naturally contained in this essential oil : Citronellol (18 to 30%), Geraniol (9 to 17%), Linalool (3 to 15%), Citral (≤2%), Limonene (≤0.5%).

Geranium essential oil should be avoided during pregnancy (pregnant women under 3 months). It can be used without risk by the respiratory tract, in cutaneous application and ingestion, with however a dilution and a dosage to be respected since the essential oil of Geranium is irritating for the skin. It is also highly dosed in allergenic components (up to 60% citronellol, linalool and geraniol) which makes it allergenic.
Essential oils are powerful natural substances and should therefore be used with care. Even if essential oils have been used since Antiquity, their mode of use and the precautions for use are often poorly known. Many books deal with essential oils. It is therefore advisable to refer to it to find out about the traditional modes of use.
As an indication, some examples of use
It is advisable to mix a few drops of essential oil with a vegetable oil (sweet almond, jojoba, macadamia, rosehip, argan, olive, etc.) to use it as a massage oil.
To give suppleness, elasticity and tone to the skin but also against minor cuts or burns, mix 100 to 120 drops for 100 ml of sweet almond oil. Apply in massage twice a day. Geranium essential oil used in the same proportions will also relieve tired muscles and joints (in localized massages).
Since essential oils are not soluble in water, they must be mixed with an emulsifier before pouring them into the bath.For example, they can be mixed with a liquid soap or a neutral shampoo (1 tablespoon) or with our Solubol® dispersant. As a general rule, it is advisable not to exceed 10 drops per bath and not to stay longer than 20 minutes. The essential oil of geranium used in the bath will allow, thanks to its soft and flowery fragrance (notes of Rose), to relax you but also to make your skin beautiful and soft.
To promote skin purification and regain healthy skin, put about 10 drops in a bowl of hot water, in fumigation.
To cleanse the atmosphere, to relax or in case of stress or melancholy, diffuse for 30 min to 1 hour in living rooms
To repel wasps or mosquitoes, mix 100 drops of citronella essential oil + 100 drops of geranium + 25 drops of cloves with 250 ml of water in a small spray bottle. Shake well and spray as insect repellent.
