The Covid-19 global health crisis has reminded us of the importance of regular hand cleaning and disinfection to prevent infections and limit the transmission of bacteria and viruses. This practical, effective and easily transportable disinfectant solution has become widely available since the spring of 2020, all over the world. It is found and used everywhere: public transport, shops, schools, etc.

The purpose of a hydroalcoholic lotion is to destroy micro-organisms present on the hands, thus limiting the transmission of certain infections. Its antimicrobial action is proven and superior to that of hand washing with antiseptic soap and water. Surgeons regularly use them in pre-operative care.

The Gravier laboratory has developed this organic antibacterial hydroalcoholic spray to offer you an effective and immediate solution for sterilising your hands after contact with another person or object.

Like all hydroalcoholic solutions, this spray contains water and alcohol. The alcoholic part of this product is bio ethanol (or ethyl alcohol). Its concentration is 70%. It acts as an active substance to eradicate bacteria.

You will also find in this product organic Aloe Vera which will bring an intense hydration to your skin, glycerin, for a better cutaneous application (humectant effect) but also essential oil of orange bio which will give a note of citrus fruits particularly pleasant with the unit.

A hydroalcoholic solution should ideally be on hand at all times. It is all the more important that it is needed when going outdoors, as this is where virus transmission is most likely and strongest.

The health authorities recommend that you apply it regularly, especially when you go to a public place or building (school, offices, shops, hospital, etc.). To take an example from everyday life, it is recommended to use it when entering a shop and again when leaving.

The same applies to public transport. On buses, underground trains and trams, it is advisable to apply a hydroalcoholic solution before and after each journey. Proximity to other people and metal bars are among the many factors that can lead to touching places containing viral bacteria. This advice is also valid for taxis, as handles or seats are places where the virus can settle.

This disinfectant solution is also needed in many other situations: after sneezing; after blowing your nose; before and after cooking; before and after meeting a sick person; after using a public toilet.

Spray the product in the palm of the hand (several times, i.e. about 3 ml), then spread it over the hands and rub it in thoroughly for at least 30 seconds until it evaporates. Immediate action. No rinsing. Repeat the application as many times as necessary. And be careful to use such a product on visibly unsullied (dry and clean) hands. It is better to avoid this spray in case of injury because of its alcoholic component. 

Remember that "classic" hand washing, with soap and water, is recommended when a drinking water point is available. Careful hand washing with soap and water eliminates the vast majority of micro-organisms by accentuating the slippery properties of our own skin, whereas hydroalcoholic gel kills pathogens but leaves them on the skin.

In addition, the excessive use of hydroalcoholic solutions could encourage the emergence and proliferation of resistant bacterial strains, which is not the case with soapy water. In the absence of an available water source, the use of this hydroalcoholic spray is nevertheless recommended, particularly in collective environments (public transport, public places, etc.).

- Not respecting the 30-second rubbing time : this is necessary to eliminate the bacteria present on the hands and to carry out a zone-by-zone rubbing.

- Using the hydroalcoholic solution on wet hands : Such a product contains a high proportion of alcohol. And the activity of this substance against bacteria depends on its concentration. If the product is used on wet hands (high proportion of water), the effectiveness of the alcohol decreases rapidly.

- Forgetting to focus on the nails : Cleaning this area is important because many bacteria can be found under the nails. This is why it is advisable, in addition to good hygiene, to cut them regularly: the longer the nails, the more germs they can harbour.

- Only use a hydroalcoholic solution : It is still essential to wash your hands when a water point is nearby. Hydro-alcoholic solutions have bactericidal, virucidal and fungicidal properties, but do not clean as such, unlike washing with soap and water. Hydroalcoholic products can also be used in addition to this method.

- Using a hydroalcoholic solution on animals : these products should obviously never be used on animals. What are the risks? Contact burns when the product is applied to the animal's skin or ingestion when the animal licks its coat, or even an alcoholic coma. As their name indicates, hydroalcoholic products contain alcohol and can therefore intoxicate animals.
