What are ticks ?

Ticks are small parasites that can cause major problems. These arachnids are found mainly in wooded areas, meadows and gardens, and feed on the blood of animals, including humans. Although they are small in size, their impact on health can be serious, as they carry a variety of diseases.

The bite of a tick can go unnoticed, as they release an anaesthetic substance that often prevents the victim from feeling pain. However, it is essential to detect their presence early, as some ticks carry diseases such as Lyme disease and tick-borne encephalitis, which can lead to serious complications if not treated in time.

How do you combat ticks ?

To protect yourself from ticks, we advise you to wear long, light-coloured clothing when out in the countryside. You'll also find natural repellents at Penn'Ty bio that you can apply to your skin or textiles to protect yourself from bites. After a walk in the open air, don't forget to check your skin carefully for ticks and to remove them correctly with a tick remover, taking care not to leave the head of the tick in the skin.

This advice should also be applied to your dog after a walk in the open air. Carefully inspect your dog's coat for any ticks that may have stuck to it. This will enable you to spot them quickly and remove them before they become firmly attached to the skin. Don't forget to fit your dog with an anti-parasite collar or to apply a pipette from time to time to combat ticks, fleas or chinch bugs.

Finally, if you have a garden, consider planting tick-repellent herbs and plants such as mint, lavender, rosemary or lemongrass. This can help reduce the presence of ticks in your pet's environment.

If you notice symptoms such as fever, headache, joint or muscle pain after a tick bite, consult a health professional immediately. The earlier a tick-borne illness is diagnosed, the greater the chances of a full recovery.

Why use natural insecticides ?

Getting rid of ticks is one thing, but wouldn't it be even better if you could also protect your health and the environment? Did you know that some particles of conventional insecticides remain in your treated rooms for several months? Fumigants are the worst because the particles fall back onto all the objects, textiles and surfaces in the room. Unless you wash each item thoroughly, you'll inevitably end up with chemical substances. Opting for natural insecticides will not only get rid of ticks, but also, thanks to the composition of our products and their low persistence, enable you to continue living in a healthy environment.

Quick and painless

crochet O’TOM® / Tick Twister®

The Tick Twister is the perfect tool for painless manual removal of ticks from your pet's skin and yours.

This device removes ticks completely without leaving their heads stuck or squeezing them. Its use limits the risk of transmission of diseases such as Lyme disease.

Advantages of this tick hook

+ It removes all ticks, whatever their size (from 1/10 of a millimetre) and their location.

+ It does not leave the tick's rostrum stuck in the skin.

+ It does not compress the tick's abdomen, thus minimising the risk of transmission of pathogens (Lyme disease, tick-borne encephalitis, piroplasmosis, etc.).

+ It does not require the use of chemicals (alcohol, ether, etc.).

+ It allows a quick, easy and painless removal.

+ It is unbreakable, resistant and can be reused indefinitely.

Why is it so important to remove ticks ?

Ticks are parasites that feed on the blood of animals and humans. During their blood meal, ticks can transmit dangerous diseases, as some ticks carry pathogens (bacteria, parasites,...). Unfortunately, the number of infected ticks has increased considerably in recent years.

To minimise the risk of catching a disease, ticks should be removed as quickly as possible, without breaking the rostrum, without compressing the body of the tick, and without assaulting or killing the tick beforehand.

Tick bites can be reduced by using chemical repellents but these often do not provide complete protection, so all pet owners, hikers, etc. should have an effective tick removal tool at hand.

Why use this tick hook ?

Détails sur la tique

It is essential not to compress the tick during removal, to reduce the risk of saliva regurgitation, which can cause illness and/or allergies.

Tweezers and other instruments currently on the market exert pressure on the tick. The O'TOM®/ TickTwister® hook, which was developed by a veterinarian, takes into account the morphology of the tick and does not compress the tick's abdomen during removal.

Détail rostre tique

The rostrum of a tick is bristling with small spikes that allow the tick to remain attached. When the tick is pulled, these spikes anchor and lock the "head" into the skin. Pulling can cause the "head" to break off and remain partially or completely in the skin, which can lead to painful inflammation or infection. The O'TOM®/ Tick Twister® hook removes ticks by rotation and not by pulling, and thanks to its shape and size, it is very easy to use.

The O'TOM®/ Tick Twister® hook is the only instrument that allows the user to grasp the tick without compressing it, and to remove it by a rotational movement. This technique is the best way to remove ticks completely and safely.

crochet O’TOM® / Tick Twister®

A very specific material

The O'TOM®/ Tick Twister® hook is made of polyacetal. This polymer was chosen for :

- Its strength,

- Its resistance to solvents (alcohol, ether, etc.) and to the various substances that unsuspecting users could have used before removal,

- Its absence of toxicity; polyacetal is entirely recyclable and can be incinerated without chlorine emissions.

Instructions for use

1. Choose the most appropriate hook according to the size of the tick.

2. Engage the hook by approaching the tick from the side.

3. Lift the hook very slightly and twist until the tick comes off (1 to 3 turns).

More about the Tick Twister by O'Tom brand

The H3D company, based in the Jura region of France, has been developing know-how and passion for pet owners since 1995, in order to offer them innovative products adapted to their needs.

Denis HEITZ, a veterinarian practising in Oyonnax (France), was faced with the problem of removing ticks from his four-legged patients. Among the instruments then available on the market, none is really satisfactory. He made his own tool, the TICK TWISTER® hook, from a simple nail.

The product evolved over time to meet the growing demand for anti-tick solutions and became a worldwide best-seller.
