Effective on application (unlike chemical filters which need 20 minutes to be effective - the absorption time), mineral sunscreens offer protection that is just as effective as traditional chemical filters without any danger to health or the planet.

Alphanova Sun has always used mineral sunscreens (hence the very light white haze for the 50+ index). The size of the titanium particles used is between 185 and 300 nm. With this size, the particles used are much too large to penetrate the epidermis; they remain on the skin's surface to fully play their role as a screen against UV rays.

These natural titanium molecules are welded together very tightly to form large blocks called aggregates. Titanium is sometimes the victim of bad press because its use is decried in foodstuffs or in certain inhaled products, whereas the safety of titanium, used as a natural sun filter, has been widely demonstrated through numerous scientific publications and by all the French, European and world authorities.

To reaffirm the harmlessness of Titanium Dioxide, an independent laboratory carried out a study (Skin penetration study on Frantz cell - OECD Protocol 428). For years, consumers, having had very little information on the subject, have used chemical sun creams, which are both harmful to health and the environment.

Every year, humans dump around 25,000 tonnes of chemical sunscreens into the oceans and seas. And the coral reefs are said to absorb 4,000 tonnes.

The problem is that coral reacts very badly to these chemical filters and ends up dying. This phenomenon has a name, "coral bleaching" and chemical sunscreen is one of the main causes; this has been highlighted by several scientific studies.

Although coral reefs represent less than 0.25% of the earth's surface, they are home to more than 25% of the world's marine life and therefore play a major role in marine biodiversity.
