Each year, we observe more and more ticks in France. They are even becoming a real public health problem. According to the INVS (National Institute for Health Monitoring), between 5,000 and 10,000 people are infected each year with Lyme disease, this bacterial disease transmitted by a tick bite.

In the forest or in the countryside, hikers, walkers, campers, hunters, golfers, farmers... must therefore be extra vigilant! Ticks lie in wait for you in tall grass, hay, shady, wooded, damp places or near water sources, ready to pounce on you to feed.

Gently slide the notch of the card under the tick and push to remove it. The other notch in the card allows you to remove the smallest ticks as well as wasp stings or splinters.

Tick bites being painless, we do not necessarily notice it. If you have been bitten, you can see on your skin after a few days a red halo around a bite point. Even if this mark disappears quickly, and even if the tick has been removed, sometimes fever, body aches, fatigue may occur. It is then urgent to consult a doctor. Remember after each walk to make a careful inspection of your skin to see if a tick has not clung to it. And you can do the same with your pets, because they are also prime targets for ticks !

If you observe that a tick has bitten you, then it must be extracted as soon as possible. This will avoid the risk of transmitting infections (Lyme disease, tick-borne encephalitis, piroplasmosis, etc.). This prevents it from regurgitating its saliva and thus transmitting its bacteria. Depending on the size of the tick, it will be more or less difficult to extract.

Avoid injuring the tick as much as possible by cutting or pulling it, squeezing it, pinching it. Contrary to popular belief, do not try to put him to sleep with ether, alcohol, oil, etc. because it will release the potentially pathogenic substrate. If you do not feel able to remove the tick, consult your doctor, dermatologist or possibly the pharmacist. In any case, it is always recommended to consult a doctor after a tick bite. He may prescribe treatment with antibiotic therapy to limit the risk of infection.
