When winter sets in, we pull out our favourite jumpers, the soft hat, the jacket we had put away... Surprise, you are obviously not the only one who likes them, the moths have proliferated ! Not to mention the carpets, curtains and other clumps of fabric that they love so much. The larvae of clothes moths are particularly fond of these textiles.

In order to prevent this from happening and to avoid finding clothes with holes in them, you can take preventive action. Our grandparents often used mothballs in their wardrobes. However, this substance is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, which has been found to be a possible carcinogen by monitoring the illnesses of chemical industry workers. Naphthalene is therefore banned. But it is known that moths avoid strong-smelling substances. Lavender, rosemary, tobacco, camphor and also cedar wood make it more difficult for moths to detect wool and are therefore able to protect your clothes.

Due to its strong odour, cedar wood is used to keep moths away from clothes. Moths can detect the smell from a distance and thus disguise the smell of the clothes and their keratin fibres, which could attract them. The smell of cedar fades over time, so it is important to reactivate its smell by sanding it regularly (at least every 6 months) or by applying a few drops of this essential oil to the wood.

Cedar wood remains a preventive treatment against moths used since antiquity. Once the moths have settled in, the cedar wood will not have the power to repel the moths or, better still, to kill them. This preventive and natural method is ideal for children's bedrooms as no harmful effects on the body have been detected so far with cedarwood (unlike naphthalene).

So, if you want to protect your clothes from moths, store cedar moth proof tokens in your dressing room. Useful and even essential, these balls will provide protection for your clothes.
