Discover capillary diffusion

Penntybio capillary diffuser

Discover the simplest and probably most reliable method of diffusion: by capillary action. The natural rattan stems are impregnated with the perfume contained in the vase and diffuse by capillary rise a soft, light and constant scent. The rattan stems will absorb the liquid like a sponge. The liquid rises in the stems through their grooves and then evaporates on contact with the air. It is therefore a passive cold diffusion.

Elegant and discreet, this diffuser, consisting of a thick glass vase, a perforated cap, a shutter and a bundle of 6 natural rattan stems, is ideal for perfuming your home. A bedroom, an office, an entrance, a toilet, a bathroom. Move it wherever you want. No constraints since it is completely autonomous and does not require any electrical connection. This mode of diffusion is done on a smaller spectrum than an electric diffuser. The scent is light and discreet : perfect on the desk at work, to enjoy the good smell without disturbing the neighbours!

You wish to diffuse a soft perfume in the long term, to facilitate concentration and to favour the work atmosphere, to refresh and purify the ambient air, to personalise the atmosphere of a room (conviviality, freshness, aphrodisiac, Christmas atmosphere... etc.), to embellish your room with a sober and elegant decorative object? This diffuser will fulfil all these purposes.

The stopper allows you to prolong the use. If you don't want to diffuse for a while, you can simply remove the rattan stems and close the vase with the stopper.

This capillary diffuser is very easy to use, as no power supply is required. Slide the wooden sticks into the glass bottle that has been filled with your mixture. The bottle is fitted with a perforated cap, to be closed if necessary between each use to preserve the aromas of the oils. The diffusion of essential oils is natural and constant, by absorption and capillarity.

Advantages of the capillary diffuser

+ No flame, no heat : Unlike candles, the diffuser does not produce a flame. This alternative to candles allows safe use.

+ Lightweight, small size, easy to use

+ Discreet, elegant and functional : In addition to scenting, this diffuser will add a decorative touch to your home.

+ No maintenance required

+ 100% natural wicker, not bleached or coloured

+ Non-stop diffusion : The diffuser by capillary action diffuses its fragrance permanently. It is simply recommended to turn the stems once a week.

+ No smoke : Despite the popularity of incense, its smoke remains harmful to health. The diffuser used with natural compositions does not give off any harmful substances.

+ No wax, no residue

+ No aerosol : Unlike pressurised room sprays, this type of diffuser does not contain any chemical compounds.

+ No energy consumption : You can place your rod diffuser anywhere without having to plug it in.

+ No heat : This is a cold diffusion. We know that heating essential oils deteriorates their virtues. Thanks to this diffuser with rods, you preserve and benefit from all their properties.

What can be diffused ?

Penntybio capillary diffuser

This diffuser allows you to diffuse essential oils, fragrances or your own compositions mixed with a base (vegetable oil or alcohol + water) by capillary rise. It diffuses slowly and lasts until the fragrance has completely evaporated.

I compose my own blend

The first criterion will be to develop a fragrance that is compatible with this diffusion process, i.e. sufficiently volatile to evaporate without the use of a heat source (such as a candle) or mechanical propulsion (such as a spray bottle). Fragrances that contain low or non-volatile components are not easily adaptable to this diffusion process.

The second criterion will be the fragrance concentration. For a correct performance, a concentration of more than 10% is required.

The duration of diffusion is not necessarily a quality criterion. It is directly related to the number and length of the rattan rods offered with the diffuser. The more numerous and longer the rods, the faster the consumption and the more intense the diffusion. The quality is therefore there since the fragrance is very well diffused. However, if you wish to enjoy your diffuser for longer, simply remove some of the rods. The diffusion will then be less intense but longer lasting.

The duration will also depend on the alcohol content. The higher the alcohol content, the faster the evaporation, but if the alcohol content is too low (for regulatory reasons in some countries), the volatility of the mixture will be poor and the duration will be longer, but at the expense of the power of the diffusion.

In conclusion, we can say that the good quality parameters are: a perfume adapted to the support, in sufficient quantity in a mixture preferably devoid of water, with enough stems to ensure a satisfactory diffusion that can be slowed down at will by removing them or, on the contrary, accelerated by turning them over more often.

To make your own diffuser composition, nothing could be simpler: count 80% to 90% of perfume base to which you add 10 to 20% of an essential oil or fragrance of your choice.

I make my own perfume mix for capillary diffusers

80 to 90% perfume base

What is this base made of ? You have a choice.

1 - The most effective is to use a carrier vegetable oil such as sweet almond, grapeseed or safflower for example. This oil will help to "dilute" the essential oils you choose to use and reduce the overpowering smell of the essential oils. The base oil will also carry your essential oils along the rattan stems so that they can diffuse into the air. Without the base oil, the diffusion would be too oppressive. The finer the oil, the more it will be drawn into your sticks.

2 - The second solution for preparing this perfume base is to use 70% natural alcohol : Alcohol is an excellent solvent for aromatic raw materials (essential oils, absolutes, natural fragrances, etc.). It is a support of vegetable origin which allows the diffusion of scents by capillary action. It favours the evaporation and diffusion of the fragrances of the composition throughout the room. Remember to dilute the alcohol with a little water (about 60ml of water for one teaspoon of alcohol). The mixture of water and alcohol will evaporate more quickly than a carrier oil and will need to be reapplied more often.

10 to 20% essential oil or fragrance suitable for diffusion

This is the part of the composition that you will smell in your home. There are many possibilities. Start by choosing one of your favourite fragrances. However, if you're not sure, peppermint is a bit of a catch-all for home fragrances. But you can use just about any essential oil, as long as it's one that's not contraindicated for diffusion. Here are some ideas for blends of oils for capillary diffusers:

As a reminder : 1 ml of essential oil is equivalent to about 35 drops.

- For a relaxing atmosphere : 2 ml of lemon essential oil + 2 ml of grapefruit essential oil + 1 ml of mandarin essential oil

- To promote sleep : 2.5 ml of marjoram essential oil + 2.5 ml of mandarin essential oil

- For a fresh smell : 2 ml of eucalyptus essential oil + 2 ml of green mandarin essential oil + 1 ml of Scots pine essential oil

- As a mosquito repellent : 2.5 ml of geranium bourbon essential oil + 2.5 ml of citronella essential oil

With experience, you can experiment with your set of essential oils to create a tailor-made atmosphere!

Instructions for use

Pour the scented composition inside the vase, dip the stems in the composition then remove them, turn them over and dip them back into the vase after one hour. Stir the stems and turn them over regularly to encourage diffusion. You should start to smell the essential oils after a day or two. As soon as you find that the scent of your perfume is too weak, simply turn the sticks over, about once a week. For the rattan sticks: instead of pressing them all against the same side of the rim, fan them out so that they diffuse the fragrance better.

Gently stir the contents of the diffuser once a week to keep the products well mixed. If you are using water and alcohol as a base, do this twice a week.

After a month or two, the fragrance of the essential oils may become less strong, even if you turn the stems regularly. Then look at the amount of liquid left in the container. Replace the volume that has evaporated, always keeping the ratio of 80 or 90% carrier oil to 10 or 20% essential oil. If you use water and alcohol, you may need to replace the mixture more frequently. Always use 85% water and alcohol to 15% essential oil.

Many parameters can affect the speed of evaporation: a radiator or ventilation close to the room, the sun's rays, air-conditioning that dries the air, a draught, etc. The bottle is fitted with a stopper, to be closed if necessary between each use to preserve the aromas of the composition and avoid too rapid evaporation.

More info

We advise you to dedicate each batch of rods to a specific composition in order to avoid mixing scents. However, if you wish to bring a little originality to your compositions, you can use the same hair stem, knowing that the scents can be mixed. After several uses, your rattan rods will surely be saturated and will not diffuse as well as they did at the beginning. We advise you to change them for new ones at that time.

Make your fragrance in advance. At the beginning, have fun by testing several mixtures of essential oils, until you find 1 or 2 fragrances that you like. This way, you can prepare your fragrances in larger quantities and store them in airtight jars. Save time with each refill!

To clean : wash the vase in hot soapy water, rubbing the sides with a brush. Leave to dry in the open air.
