Natural repellents based on powerful ingredients : an effective defence against insects in our homes

The fight against crawling and flying insects invading our homes can be waged naturally thanks to a range of powerful plant-derived ingredients. In addition to insects, these natural active ingredients can also act as repellents for other animals, such as moles, slugs and even snakes. These repellents offer an environmentally and human health-friendly alternative to harsh chemicals. Let's find out how ingredients such as geraniol, eucalyptus citriodora, margosa, vegetable pyrethrum and essential oils can play a crucial role in defending our living spaces.

1. Geraniol : Geraniol, a natural compound found in certain essential oils such as citronella and geranium, has repellent properties against a variety of insects, including mosquitoes and flies. Geraniol-based products can be sprayed into rooms or applied to the skin to keep insects away.

2. Eucalyptus Citriodora : Eucalyptus citriodora essential oil is known for its strong lemony aroma. It is effective against mosquitoes and other biting insects. Mixed with a carrier oil, it can be applied to the skin or used in diffusers to keep insects at bay. Penn'Ty Bio offers a range of lemon eucalyptus products to protect you from insect bites

3. Margosa (Neem) : Margosa extracts, derived from neem seeds, have well-established insect repellent properties. The bitter odour and repellent action of margosa make it a valuable ingredient in sprays and lotions for protection against insects.

4. Plant pyrethrum : extracts of plant pyrethrum are obtained from the flowers of certain varieties of chrysanthemum. They are used to make natural contact insecticides or repellents. Pyrethrum is effective against a wide range of insects, including ants, flies and cockroaches.

5. Essential oils : As well as geraniol and eucalyptus citriodora, many other essential oils can be used as natural repellents. Peppermint, clove, lavender and lemon are just a few examples of oils with repellent properties. They can be mixed with water to create sprays or added to cleaning products.

Using natural repellents based on these ingredients offers a solution that is not only effective, but also without the drawbacks of traditional chemicals. However, it is important to note that although these options are natural, some people may be sensitive to essential oils or plant extracts. Before using these products, it is advisable to carry out a skin patch test and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

By adopting natural repellents, you can create a hostile environment for unwanted insects, while keeping your home and the surrounding ecosystem safe.

Moles, beware of damage !

Lutter contre les taupes dans son jardin

The mole is a small mammal, widespread in Europe. It is found in gardens, fields, vegetable gardens and all worked areas. This small animal, which is rarely seen, lives underground, forming large galleries. The presence of moles can be recognized by the appearance of mounds of fine earth in the garden. And every spring, the moles go on the attack. They can dig up to 20 metres of galleries per day. Their activity on a plot of land can range from 500 to 3000 m² depending on the food supply (5 to 10 moles per hectare). If you are a fan of impeccable lawns, the mole is likely to play with your nerves by turning your land upside down !

Alt'O Moles, a natural anti-mole solution

ALT'O MOLES is a solution to combat damage caused by moles. It provides an effective and long-lasting odour barrier for up to 2 months. It is known that the mole has a very sensitive sense of smell. This is the basis of the composition of Alt'o Moles. This product is composed of micro-porous granules impregnated with an active ingredient (geraniol) that disturbs the sense of smell to repel them from the treated area.

Once the granules are spread in the molehill, they will release an odour that will make the gallery uninhabitable. As a result, you will effectively repel them from your property. The aesthetics of your garden are restored. The risks of falls and injuries due to clods of earth or raised slabs are thus avoided.

ALT'O MOLES is ready to use and easy to operate. You can use it either to repel moles that are already present, or as a preventive measure. Beware, the effect is limited if the soil is clayey, marshy or damp.

Advantages of ALT'O MOLES

+ Chases and prevents the intrusion of moles by creating an olfactory barrier

+ Long-lasting action up to 2 months

+ 1 sachet = approximately 30 molehills treated

+ Contains geraniol, an active ingredient of plant origin

+ Sold without blister pack, by bag of 100 grs

+ Harmless to pets

How to use

Comment utiliser Alt'O Taupes ?

In case of low infestation :  Flatten the molehill and introduce about ten granules. Fill the tunnel with soil or a tuft of grass so that the mole cannot see the light and avoid letting soil fall into the hole. Treat all molehills in this way. The pellets release an odour that makes the tunnel uninhabitable. Treat all new molehills that appear until they are completely gone.

In case of heavy infestation : Place 5 to 6 granules at about 1 metre intervals and at a depth of 15/20 cm and close the hole. Do not encircle the animal and leave a free path for it to escape. Do not introduce the granules directly into the mole or into the galleries. After treatment, level the molehill.

Preventive use : Place 5 to 6 granules at a distance of about 1 metre and at a depth of 15/20 cm and close the hole. In the spring, we advise you to form a protective barrier around the area to be protected.

Its composition

0.2% (w/w) Geraniol (CAS No. 106-24-1) - Biocidal product - Repellent (TP19) granules.

Period of use

ALT'O Moles can be used throughout the year. Beware of the strong periods of mole activity which are often linked to changes in the weather. Indeed, periods of thaw, rain after drought in particular, force the moles to renovate or enlarge their network, often because they follow the earthworms in depth and these migrate upwards or downwards depending on the temperature or humidity of the soil.

Packaging

Hermetically sealed aluminium bag of 100 grams allowing to intervene on 20 to 30 molehills (depending on the degree of infestation).

How can you tell the difference between moles and voles ?

It is not always obvious whether the mound of earth is caused by a mole or a vole. The trick is to differentiate between them:

Mole : vertical arrival, fine soil.

The vole : oblique arrival, grainy soil.

Focus on the mole, a carnivore with an underground life

Not very sociable, the mole lives underground where it digs galleries to find its food. The mole likes fresh, loose soil that is rich in worms and larvae or insects. It consumes 90% earthworms (about 50 grams per day) and 10% mealy bugs, grubs, slugs or grubs. A real glutton, it eats the equivalent of half its weight every day. Without food, it can die in a very short time (less than 12 hours), hence its absolute necessity to find food and to extend its hunting territory to other parts of the land.

Precautions for use

Wear protective gloves during use. Wash hands thoroughly after use. Fill holes in the floor well to avoid falls. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Keep away from food and drink, including pet food. Avoid contact with eyes. After use, close the package tightly. Do not reuse empty packaging. Store in the original container in a dry place. Do not dispose of residues in drains and waterways.
