Some facts about clary sage

Native to western Asia and southern and central Europe, this biennial herbaceous plant is widely cultivated in temperate countries as an ornamental plant but mainly to produce an essential oil used in the manufacture of liqueurs or perfumes (such as eau de Cologne For example). Sage was one of the saving plants of the Middle Ages. The Greeks, Romans and Arabs commonly used it as a tonic and compress against snakebites, Egyptian women used to drink sage juice to increase their fertility, "Who has sage in his garden , does not need a doctor" (provençal saying).

The aerial parts of the plant are harvested just before flowering, these parts are then distilled to extract the essential oil.

Queen of medicinal plants, sage may be “hard” (sclarea comes from the Greek sklaros, “rigid”), but it is above all beneficial (salvia comes from the Latin salvare, “to save”).
