Spike lavender essential oil - Lavandula latifolia

Method of obtaining : Traditional distillation by steam distillation.

Origin : Spain

Yield : 0.5% to 0.8%. It therefore takes 100 kg of plant to obtain 500 g to 800 g of Spike Lavender essential oil.

Smell : Characteristic, herbaceous, earthy, camphorous.

Aspic lavender is a shrub, present in Spain, France and southern England. It likes low mountain areas, with a Mediterranean climate, where it grows in bushes. The blue or purple colored flowers are fragrant and give off a camphor smell. Spike lavender has the same medicinal characteristics as true lavender (lavandula angustifolia). Yields per hectare are very variable, from 15 to 80 kg depending on the plant, the climate, the region and the age of the plantation. The best essential oil yield is assured when it is 4 to 6 years old. It shares its name and its habitat with the asp viper and, since Antiquity, it has been used in friction on the bites of snakes but also as a general detoxifier. Spike Lavender essential oil is known for its soothing and regenerating properties, which traditionally makes it a valuable ally for the care of insect bites, scarred areas and superficial burns.

Darker than true lavender essential oil, that of aspic lavender has a less sweet smell. No one would dream of scenting a linen closet or a crème brûlée with it, but this strong fragrance, due to the presence of camphor, seduces perfumers. Antitoxic, anti-infectious and exceptionally healing, spike lavender, a precious companion for summer holidays, is indicated for "everything that stings" (insect, jellyfish, sunburn). It exterminates mites and lice and, a remarkable fungicide, overcomes the most stubborn fungal infections (dermatological, digestive or gynecological). Rendering great services in the ENT sphere, it has an effective painkiller action, especially in the case of shingles, herpes or joint or muscle pain (osteoarthritis, arthritis, cramps, etc.).

*The chemotype is the identity card of the essential oil, its composition chemically defined by chromatographic analysis. The same plant can have several compositions depending on the place and the variety. A chemotype depends on a property, an odor, a taste. 

Spike Lavender essential oil has monoterpenols (more than 40% Linalool), terpene oxides and ketones (camphor with 15%) as main active components.

Properties of Spike Lavender essential oil in diffusion

Diffusing Use Diffusing for 30 minutes in the bedroom before bedtime will promote serenity, calm and relax you. You can also put 1 drop of spike lavender on your pillow from time to time. For good morale in difficult times and to relieve tension, diffuse equal parts of spike lavender and peppermint. For more respiratory resistance but also to breathe more freely, spread equal parts of aspic lavender and rosemary.

Substances naturally contained in Spike Lavender essential oil: Linalool, 1,8-cineol, camphor. Allergens naturally contained in Spike Lavender essential oil: Linalool (20-50%), D-Limonene (<3%), Citronellol (<0.3%), Geraniol (<0.2%), Coumarin (< 0.2%), Eugenol (<0.1%).  

An essential oil is made up of chemically defined molecules (about 10,000 listed) that have been secreted by special plant cells. It can consist of from one to several hundred molecules, which helps explain why some essential oils have many properties but different therapeutic effectiveness. To guarantee the properties necessary for effective aromatherapy, it is important that an essential oil is 100% pure and natural (not cut, not deterpenated, not mixed with alcohol or vegetable oils) and preferably organic.
