Originally from South Africa, there are currently more than 700 species of native or hybrid geranium, the majority of which is ornamental. They are cultivated all over the world, especially in China, in the Maghreb countries, including the exyptus. The Genranium of eegypte is a Geranium rosat and has the same properties as its Bourbon counterpart, however the Geranium "Borbon" is renowned for its finer olfactory quality, flowery and sweet (and also more expensive).

The commercial qualities of geraniums are very different. The magnificent geraniums that embellish each year the small Alsatian villages are not of the same species as the rosat geranium which is used in aromatherapy or perfumery. Their composition and properties also. Be particularly vigilant about the origin of the oil! It is, with lemon, one of the most used essential oils in aromatherapy.
