Yield : 0.2% to 0.5%. It therefore takes 100 kg of plant to obtain from 200 g to 500 g of Cypress essential oil. 

Some information about cypress

Originally from Asia Minor, the cypress, a tree about 30 m high, with a pyramidal shape and evergreen foliage, is commonly represented in the Mediterranean basin. Often sought after for the manufacture of works of art, because unalterable over time, cypress is also known for its therapeutic virtues, in particular for its beneficial effects on circulation. Very pale yellow in color, cypress essential oil, with its amber scent, is often used in after-shave lotions.

Cypress essential oil is one of the sweetest and least dangerous, its fragrance gives off a sweet flavor and a powerful smell of resin that goes well with pine and rosemary. It tones the tissues and regulates the secretion of sebum. It is perfect for oily skin.

Astringent, it will be ideal as an aftershave. Stimulating for the circulation, it will warm hands and cold feet. It will also reduce stress and nervousness.

*The chemotype is the identity card of the essential oil, its composition chemically defined by chromatographic analysis. The same plant can have several compositions depending on the place and the variety. A chemotype depends on a property, an odor, a taste.

Chemical formula

Cypress essential oil is above all composed of monoterpenes (delta-3-carene, pinenes) and some sesquiterpenes (about 10%). Cedrol is present at around 0.8% to 1%.

Attention !

Cypress essential oil should not be used by pregnant or breastfeeding women. Essential oils rich in terpenes, so it can be very irritating to the skin. In cutaneous application, remember to dilute it up to 20% in a vegetable oil. Essential oil contraindicated in case of hormone-dependent cancer. Do not use for prolonged periods without medical advice.

 

Usage tips

Essential oils are powerful natural substances and should therefore be used with care. Even if essential oils have been used since Antiquity, their mode of use and the precautions for use are often poorly known. Many books deal with essential oils. It is therefore advisable to refer to it to find out about the traditional modes of use.

As an indication, some examples of use

 

Application by massage or compressIt is advisable to mix a few drops of essential oil with a vegetable oil (sweet almond, jojoba, macadamia, rosehip, argan, olive, etc.) to use it as a massage oil.

To promote good circulation and relieve leg problems (varicose veins, etc.) : 30 to 50 drops diluted in 100 ml of vegetable oil. Use as a leg massage or as a compress for 15 minutes.

To promote urinary comfort in middle-aged men : 20 drops of cypress + 20 drops of niaouli + 10 drops of wintergreen in 100 ml of vegetable oil. Massage the lower abdomen.

Against oily hair, mix 1 drop of cypress essential oil with 2 drops of lemon essence in your dose of shampoo.

Use by broadcastTo breathe more freely and in case of cough, diffuse between 30 and 45 minutes in the room, before going to bed or 2 to 3 drops on a handkerchief, then breathe. It will promote general tone, especially in cases of irritability or nervous or physical fatigue.

Oral useAgainst cough or hoarseness of the voice, put 2 drops of essential oil of cypress on a neutral tablet or in a teaspoonful of honey. Take this preparation 3 to 4 times a day until improvement.

Use in the bathSince essential oils are not soluble in water, they must be mixed with an emulsifier before pouring them into the bath (eg our dispersant Solubol®). For example, they can be mixed with a liquid soap or a neutral shampoo (1 tablespoon). Cypress essential oil in the bath will be excellent for weak return circulation, rheumatic pains, cramps, hot flashes, heavy legs, swollen ankles, tired feet, cellulite, hemorrhoids, shingles or herpes. Put 20 drops in the bath diluted in milk or other emulsifier. Stay in the bath for 15 minutes (no more) breathing deeply.
