Some information about Niaouli

Niaouli is a tree abundant in New Caledonia. Today, it is widely seen in the Indonesian archipelago, Madagascar and Australia. Niaouli treats hot and humid areas. The genus Melaleuca has several species of which the most famous are the tea tree also called Tee tree (melaleuca alternifolia) and the cajeput (melaleuca cajeputi,) with all marked antiseptic properties. The essential oil of niaouli has a special smell where the strength of eucalyptusol is mixed, and softish notes that remind bitter almond. Niaouli also bears the name of Goménol, also known as the “skin tree” because of the successive layers of bark of its wood (10-20 layers thick overlapping. ).

It is found in many commercial preparations (gargarism, toothpaste, breath refreshers). Its fragrance is strong, camphor and frank with a sulphur note. You can combine it with lavender, lemongrass, orange, pine, peppermint and rosemary. It is very close to the essence of cajeput and eucalyptus but more delicate and less irritating.

Chemical formula

Niaouli's essential oil consists mainly of terpenic oxides (1.8-cineole: 38% to 48%), monoterphenols, sesquiterphenols including viridiflorol (6% to 15)% and monoterpenes (alpha and beta pinene, lemonene) that are removed to obtain purified oil. This composition corresponds to the essential oil from Madagascar, that of Nouvelle-Calédonie consisting mainly of sesquiterpénols (65% to 70%) and monoterpénols (about 20%).

Instructions for use

Application par massage ou compresseIt is advisable to mix a few drops of essential oil with a vegetable oil (soft almond, jojoba, macadamia, musk rose, argan, olive, etc) to use it as massage oil.
