Some information on the cistus ladanifera

The cistus is a shrub 1 to 2 meters high, with blackish stems and glutinous branches. The 3-veined, lanceolate leaves have a glabrous upper side and a cottony underside. The flowers are terminal and large in size. The cistus blooms from April to June. It is found in France (Provence, Alpes maritime, Languedoc), Spain, Portugal or North Africa such as Morocco. It exudes a resinous product (oleoresin) called labdanum or ladanum with a strong balsamic odor which helps to slow down the dehydration of the plant. The cistus ladaniferous (haemostatic) often rubs shoulders with the Italian helichrysum (anti-haematoma) in the Corsican maquis. Happy union!

Cistus ladaniferous essential oil is well known as a haemostatic. It is traditionally used in aromatherapy to stop minor bleeding, heal small cuts and promote healing. It is also renowned for its interesting effects as an accompaniment in certain autoimmune or viral diseases.

Rich in monoterpenes, Cistus ladaniferous essential oil is also highly appreciated for its relaxing and regulating effects on the nervous system. It is therefore recommended for agitated subjects.

Finally, Cistus essential oil is particularly appreciated as an active ingredient in the preparation of anti-ageing, anti-wrinkle and firming treatments. Which makes it a precious beauty oil. Restorative and astringent, it is also an essential oil in case of couperose or chapped skin.

It works very well in synergy with bourbon geranium to stop bleeding, in synergy with true lavender to heal or even in synergy with Italian helichrysum for bruises and hematomas.
