Who is the mosquito ?

The mosquito, with its tiny size and annoying buzz, is an insect that may seem insignificant at first glance. However, despite its small size, it has a huge impact on human health and the ecosystem.

Mosquitoes are blood-sucking insects. Females need blood to develop their eggs, while males mainly feed on flower nectar. These prolific little creatures are found in almost all parts of the world except for extremely cold places.

Besides the itchy and irritated skin caused by their bites, mosquitoes can carry dangerous diseases. They are responsible for transmitting serious diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, chikungunya, Zika virus and yellow fever. Each year, millions of people are infected with these diseases, causing considerable human suffering and social and economic disruption in the affected regions.

The consequences of mosquito-borne diseases are not just limited to humans. Wild and domestic animals can also be infected, disrupting local ecosystems and impacting biodiversity.

How to fight against mosquitoes ?

Mosquito control is a constant challenge for health authorities and communities. Preventive measures such as using mosquito nets, removing standing water (buckets, clogged gutters, flower pots, used tires, basins, etc.) where mosquitoes lay their eggs, and using repellents can help reduce the risk of bites and disease.

Research is also being carried out to develop innovative and sustainable mosquito control methods, including the use of genetically modified mosquitoes to reduce their populations, or the implementation of biological control techniques by introducing natural mosquito predators in certain areas.

At Penn'Ty Bio, we offer many ecological solutions to fight against mosquitoes. Vegetable insecticide, repellent, mosquito net, diffusers, essential oils, anti-bite and anti-itch lotion or roll on... By adopting preventive measures, you will help reduce mosquito bites and minimize their impact on your daily life.

Why natural insecticides ?

Getting rid of mosquitoes is one thing (although very difficult, let's face it!), but if you could also preserve your health and your environment, wouldn't that be even better ? Did you know that some conventional insecticide particles remain in your treated rooms for several months ? Smoke is the worst because the particles fall on all objects, textiles, surfaces in the room. Unless you thoroughly wash each item, you will inevitably end up with chemicals. Opting for natural insecticides will allow both to get rid of mosquitoes but also, due to the composition of our products and their low persistence, to continue to live in a healthy environment.

Mosquitoes, what a mess !

Anti-moustiques bio

A dinner with family or friends on the terrace or balcony. Everything is going well, until the mosquitoes arrive. For some people more than others (unfortunately, it's unfair!), the moment of relaxation will quickly be ruined.

The mosquito is able to smell you at a distance of 20 to 30 meters. It's the female mosquito trying to bite you. Not to annoy you, but simply to feed. She finds in your blood all the proteins necessary for her eggs to develop. And when it comes to the speed of the meal, the mosquito is very strong. It only takes 2-3 seconds for it to replenish your blood. To avoid bites, a solution exists.

Ensuring peaceful summer evenings

With the Aries Citronella Summer Candle, mosquitoes will stay away. This candle, made of 100% natural vegetable wax (rapeseed) and subtly scented with essential oils of Lemongrass from Java, Orange and Geraniol has been studied to keep mosquitoes at bay. Its use can be indoor or outdoor. Its burning time is +/- 22 hours. It can be easily turned off or on to ensure peaceful summer evenings. The candle holder is ceramic for safe burning.

A 100% natural candle, without petrochemicals and without animal matter.

The little bonus, you will find it in the cardboard sleeve of the candle which envelops the ceramic. Lemon basil seeds have been slipped into it. Once the candle is consumed, the ceramic pot can be used again to plant these seeds. The smell of this plant is known to repel mosquitoes. A smart way to not throw anything away and to make the double function of this summer candle a real mosquito repellent ally.

A paraffin-free wax made from rapeseed

Bougie d'été à la citronnelle Aries

In the design of candles, paraffin is the most widely used wax in the world, whether by the wax industry or by small wax makers or amateurs who find it in small quantities in stores. Why ? It is very inexpensive and very easy to use, with a beautiful transparency that gives free rein to our imagination and even available in gel. Except that ... paraffin is nothing more than a derivative of petroleum, resulting from petrochemicals. Do you not believe that oil is used enough and too much in our daily lives, while vegetable alternatives exist?

The rapeseed flower from which the wax is made is grown mainly in Europe and processed in Europe, which considerably reduces the carbon footprint. Unlike soy or palm kernel, rapeseed is grown in crop rotation. That is to say that during one season, we will grow wheat, corn,. . . , then then to let the soil remineralize, nitrogenize ... we will plant rapeseed there. It will then either be transformed into fodder for animals (main use), or into edible oil or, more recently, into wax for candles. Rapeseed wax smells nothing when it burns. It melts at low temperature which extends the life of the candle.

Using rapeseed wax to make candles is both a real ecological and ethical commitment.

Focus on the main assets

Cire de colzaRapeseed wax : Rapeseed wax is a very interesting solution if you are looking for a product that is both aesthetic and ethical. This 100% rapeseed wax is ideal for making molded candles. Rapeseed wax is not the easiest to work with (tends to fracture or "frost" on its surface once poured, and it does not always adhere well to the walls of the container), but it allows, once the mastered process, to obtain candles with an asserted charm. Rapeseed is a local product and grown on existing fields to give the soil time to regenerate between two crops.

Huile essentielle de citronnelle bioJava lemongrass essential oil : Java lemongrass essential oil, also known as “from Madagascar” or “from India”, is the most famous mosquito repellent. Its repellent action is explained by the presence of citronellal, geraniol and citronellol in its composition. Powerful and lemony, it smells fresh. Unique blend of molecules (esters, aldehydes and alcohols) with a pungent, tart smell that mosquitoes hate.

Le géraniolGéraniol : Geraniol is naturally present in the form of a molecule in plants of the Geraniaceae family. (Geranium, Pelargonium, Erodium, ...). It is considered 5 times more potent than lemongrass. It is obtained by fractional distillation from the Cympobogon Winterianus Jowitt extracting all the impurities without any chemical means. It is a product used naturally for the preventive fight of fleas or ticks in domestic animals or to reinforce the insecticidal action of a product or even used as a repellent against hematophagous insects (feeding on blood). Combined with lemongrass essential oil, it will reinforce the repellent action of the product.

Huile essentielle de géranium bioOrange essential oil : Sweet Orange essential oil, derived from pressed zest, has a very pleasant fruity and sweet smell which makes it a must in the range of essential oils in diffusion, especially for infants. It is renowned for its calming, soothing and anti-infectious action. It is not known to have insect repellent properties. On the other hand, combined with Java lemongrass, it gives the product a very pleasant smell to perfume the treated environment.

Usage tips

Trim the wick to about 1cm before lighting. If the wick is too long, wax may build up during combustion or the flame may rise too high and produce soot. Before lighting it, place the candle on a stable, flat surface protected from heat and away from any flammable material (fabric curtains, wooden objects, etc.).

Mosquito preferences

Popular beliefs have long suggested that mosquitoes were only attracted to people with sweet blood. This would be the reason why some people are more often victims of mosquitoes than others. In reality, it's not that simple. If indeed, mosquitoes like to eat sweets, it is above all the exhaled carbon dioxide that attracts them. The more carbon dioxide a person exhales, the more likely they are to get stung. Then, according to a Japanese study, it is true that individuals belonging to blood group O are more likely to be bitten, because their blood secretes more carbohydrates.

Conditioning

Candle presented in a ceramic pot wrapped in a rigid presentation cardboard.

Precautions for use

Do not place a candle near a heat source: the higher the temperature around the candle, the greater the risk. Candles can drip wax, or become unstable and tip over. Do not move a lit candle. This can produce the same effect as placing it in a draft (soot and run). Don't let a candle burn out completely. Extinguish the candle when it comes about 2 cm from the candle holder. Otherwise, it may leave burn marks or even start a fire.
