Although they disappeared in the 1950s, bed bugs have been making their way into French homes in recent years. Since the early 2000s, the presence of these pests has been exponential throughout the country. You can find them in hotels, guest rooms, holiday homes, retirement homes, cultural centres, public transport, etc. The causes: international travel and the appearance of resistance to insecticides. It is difficult not to have heard of them or even to have been confronted with this insect.

Even though they are very small, bed bugs are still visible to the naked eye. They live out of the light, in dark spaces. They are particularly fond of bedrooms and living rooms with sofas. Why do they do this? Because this insect needs blood to feed and reproduce. Logically, they hide near the spaces where you rest to take their meal by biting you. 70% of bed bugs hide in your bedding: bed bases, mattresses and bed frames are at the top of the list. They can be found in the ticking, "tassels" and "beading" of mattresses, in the folds of sheets, blankets and duvets, but also in box springs and slatted bases.

To counter an invasion of bed bugs, it is therefore important to target your treatment on the places where they hide in greatest numbers : YOUR BEDDING. Our product ALT'O BED BUGS has been specifically developed to treat furniture where they nest.

This product has been formulated with 100% active plant ingredients. Containing pyrethrum, a vegetable oil and a complex of essential oils, this insecticide acts directly on bedbugs at all their stages of development (egg, larva and adult). Pyrethrum, extracted from the dried flowers of the chrysanthemum plant, acts as a strong neurotoxicant by attacking their nervous system. The vegetable oil (which we keep secret:) and the different essential oils combine with pyrethrum to increase its persistence and slow down its evaporation. Its exclusive, high-quality formulation allows easy and targeted use on bed bugs in the heart of your beddings, combining rapidity of action and persistence. Once sprayed on your surfaces, ALT'O BED BUGS will keep its destructive action for 15 days. This is a real strength, because even if you don't hit all the bedbugs when you apply it, its duration of action will inevitably allow you to hit them within the next 15 days. Even so, eggs laid in hard-to-reach areas of bedding the day before a treatment will eventually hatch into nymphs. They would then be exposed to ALT'O BEDBUGS as soon as they emerged from the egg.

Pyrethrum : Pyrethrum is a plant insecticide extracted from dried chrysanthemum flowers. Kenya is the largest producer of pyrethrum, followed by Tanzania. The term "pyrethrum" refers to the powder extracted from dried chrysanthemum flowers, while the term "pyrethrins" refers to the six active compounds contained in this powder. It is these active ingredients that have a strong neurotoxic effect on insects. Pyrethrum Extract is effective on many of them. It acts on the nervous system of insects, causing them to suffer from lightning muscle paralysis. It is one of the most powerful knock-down agents. Pyrethrum can be used in organic farming. It is biodegradable and its action is limited in time because it degrades in the light.  

Vegetable oil : The vegetable oil used in ALT'O BED BUGS has a biochemical action. It also has a technological action with the pyrethrum contained in the formula. It slows down its evaporation, increases its persistence and the effectiveness of the product by disrupting gas exchanges (respiration) and the function and structure of the cell membrane. Its toxic action on insects is more physical than chemical. The plant oil used contains natural molecules close to PBO (piperonyl butoxide) in terms of structure. It is known that PBO (a semi-synthetic substance obtained from safrole) is strongly suspected of being an endocrine disruptor (which has been banned in organic farming since 2017). ALT'O BED BUGS vegetable oil (which we keep secret) is an excellent natural alternative that replaces PBO in the formulas.

The essential oil complex : The essential oils selected in ALT'O BED BUGS were chosen for their synergistic action with the other ingredients but also for their well-known repellent properties against this insect. A well-balanced blend of essential oils of lavender, geranium and lemongrass, among others. Some of the compounds in these essential oils have an anti-parasitic effect. In combination with the rest of our formula, they alter the cell membranes and intracellular constituents of harmful organisms. This prevents their development and causes a strong alteration in the insect.

Before spraying, vacuum the sofa, armchair, mattress, bed base or any other part of the furniture to be treated. Machine wash at 60°C for fabrics that can be removed. Keep pets away during application and until the applied product has dried completely.

1 - Shake the bottle well before use

2 - Spray ALT'O BEDBUGS on the surfaces to be treated: mattress, bed base, sofa, armchair, etc. The 750 ml of product allows you to treat a complete bed and its surroundings (bed base, mattress, headboard, bedside tables and carpets). For the treatment of fabrics, test beforehand on a non-visible part to avoid possible stains. For slatted bases, remember to remove all slats and treat the space where they fit into the bed frame. This is a classic hiding place for bedbugs that is often overlooked. For box springs, spray the product directly onto the fabric of the base.

3 - Ideally, the treatment should be carried out in the morning and the product should be left to dry all day. Ventilation of the treated room is not compulsory, but we still advise you to ventilate, especially if you are sensitive to essential oils. People can sleep on the mattress at night if it is dry.

4 - After one week, vacuum all the areas where the product has been applied. Repeat if necessary 15 days after the first treatment.

Here are some clues that will help you to know if you are infested:

1 - Dark stains : on your sheets, your box spring, your mattress, your walls... These small suspicious stains whose origin you do not understand can alert you. They are often caused by bedbugs themselves or by their excrement.

2 - Blood stains on your sheets : After biting you while you sleep, the bedbugs are then gorged with your blood. These bloodstains may be the result of bugs that you unwillingly crushed while you were sleeping. 

3 - Bites on your skin : When you wake up, if you notice a series of bites on the exposed parts of your body (arms, legs, back), often grouped in the same area or sometimes a line of 3 to 4 spots, it is possible that they are bedbugs.
